"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
You are staring at a masterpiece every morning. Every time you look in the mirror, you see God's work. You are not a rough draft waiting for edits. You are His finished design, created with intention and purpose. The word "handiwork" in Greek is poiema, where we get "poem." God wrote you like a poem, crafted you like art.
Culture tells you to find yourself, create yourself, be yourself. It puts the pressure on you to design your own life. You scroll through social media and see everyone's highlight reels. You compare and feel ordinary, unfinished, or behind everyone else. But that's the wrong lens, the wrong measuring stick entirely. You are not supposed to create yourself from scratch today. God already designed you when He made you new in Christ.
The problem is we believe lies about our worth. We think, "I'm just average, nothing special, too broken." We believe our past mistakes have ruined God's design for us. We assume our talents aren't good enough or significant enough. But God doesn't call the equipped, He equips the called. Your brokenness doesn't disqualify you. It displays His grace even more.
Michelangelo spent four years painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling. From 1508 to 1512, he lay on scaffolding, paint dripping down. Every brushstroke was intentional, every detail designed with purpose and care. He didn't rush or create randomly, he crafted a masterpiece. God designed you the same way, with even more care. He didn't mass produce you or stamp you from a template. You are His custom design. His intentional creation in Christ.
Stop waiting to become enough before you step into purpose. You are already God's masterpiece, designed in Christ Jesus right now. You don't need more credentials, more confidence, or more time. You need to see yourself the way God already sees you. Psalm 139:14 says, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Not "I will be" but "I am," present tense, right now.
Godseekers, God intentionally designed you for specific good works. He didn't save you just to get you to heaven. He raised you up to live with purpose here on earth. The works are already prepared, waiting for you to discover them. Your job isn't to invent your purpose but to uncover it. Stop comparing yourself to others and start asking God His design.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for designing me with intention and care. You are the Master Artist, the One who crafted me with purpose. I confess I have believed lies about myself, comparing and doubting. Help me to see myself through Your eyes as Your masterpiece. Show me the good works You prepared in advance for me. Give me courage to step into them without waiting for perfection. I trust You know what You designed me to accomplish. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Personal Reflection
- What lies have you believed about yourself that contradict God's view of you as His intentionally designed masterpiece?
- How would your life change if you truly believed you are already God's finished work rather than a project still under construction?
Step of Faith
Today, I will thank God for designing me with intention and ask Him to reveal one specific way I can step into the good works He prepared for me.
