"And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified."
Romans 8:30 (NIV)
What if I told you your transformation is already done? Not in your present experience, but in God's eternal purpose. Notice the verb tense Paul uses: "those he justified, he also glorified." Past tense. Not "will glorify" or "might glorify." Glorified. As if it's already accomplished. As if the outcome is so certain that God speaks of your future perfection as a present reality.
This guarantee doesn't mean you sit back and do nothing. It means you work from security, not for security. Philippians 2:12-13 captures this perfectly: "Work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you." Notice both sides. You work out what God is working in. He's doing the transforming work, but you cooperate with it. You pursue holiness knowing the outcome is guaranteed, not hoping your effort might earn it.
Knowing where you're headed changes how you live right now. 1 John 3:2-3 says: "We shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself." See that connection? Because you know you'll be like Jesus one day, you pursue holiness today. The guarantee doesn't make you careless. It makes you intentional. You chase after Christlikeness not because you're unsure about the ending, but because you're confident about where you're headed.
Think about an athlete training for the Olympics. She knows the date. She knows the location. The event is guaranteed to happen. Does that certainty make her lazy? No. It fuels her training. She works harder because she knows the day is coming. That's how God's guarantee works. You pursue Christlikeness with urgency because you know glorification is certain, not distant or doubtful.
Here's the balance: God guarantees the outcome, but He uses your cooperation in the process. He will complete what He started. That's settled. But He completes it through your obedience, your choices, your daily pursuit of Him. You're not earning transformation. You're participating in it. You submit to Scripture. You resist temptation. You practice spiritual disciplines. Not to make glorification possible, but because it's already promised.
Godseekers, let this truth fuel your pursuit, not kill it. You don't work to secure what God already guaranteed. You work because you're designed to become like Christ, and cooperating with God's shaping is how you get there. Press on with confidence. Fight sin with hope. Pursue holiness with certainty. The finish line is guaranteed, but the race still requires your running. God will complete His work in you, often through your faithful obedience to Him.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You that my glorification is secure in Your promise. But help me never use that security as an excuse for laziness. Give me the grace to work out what You're working in. Help me pursue holiness with confidence, knowing the outcome is certain but the process requires my cooperation. Show me where I'm resisting Your work instead of partnering with it. Give me strength to run the race set before me, not to earn Your approval, but because I'm already secure in Your love. Complete Your work in me as I surrender to Your shaping. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Personal Reflection
- Am I using God's grace as an excuse for laziness, or am I letting it fuel my pursuit of holiness?
- What's one area where I need to actively cooperate with God's transforming work instead of passively waiting for change?
Step of Faith
Today, I will identify one specific habit or discipline that would help me cooperate with God's sanctifying work. I will take one concrete action toward holiness, knowing God guarantees the outcome but invites my participation in the process.
