"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people."
Matthew 4:19 (NIV)
Jesus is calling you right now. His invitation is not complicated or confusing. He simply says, "Come, follow me." These four words changed the lives of fishermen 2,000 years ago. They can change your life today too. The call is personal, direct, and impossible to ignore.
Notice what Jesus promises in His invitation. He doesn't just call you to follow Him. He calls you to be sent out with purpose. When you say yes to Jesus, you're not just saved. You're also commissioned for a mission bigger than yourself. God designed you for more than just receiving His grace. He designed you to share it with others who need it.
Following Jesus requires denying yourself and taking up your cross daily. This isn't a one-time decision you made years ago. It's a fresh commitment you make every single morning. Each day brings new opportunities to choose Jesus over your comfort. Each day invites you to surrender your plans for His purposes. The call to follow is the call to let go.
God doesn't send people who have it all together. He sends ordinary people who say yes to His extraordinary call. Romans 10:15 asks, "How can anyone preach unless they are sent?" The answer is simple: they can't and they won't. But when you respond to Jesus' invitation, God sends you out. Your beautiful feet carry the good news to people who desperately need it.
So what's holding you back from saying yes today? Is it fear of what others will think of you? Is it comfort you're afraid to lose or plans you want? Is it past failures that make you feel unqualified for God's work? Jesus knew Peter would deny Him three times, yet still called him. Your past doesn't disqualify you from God's future for your life.
Godseekers, Jesus is standing before you with an open invitation. He's not asking you to be perfect before you follow. He's asking you to trust Him enough to take the first step. When you say yes to His call, you unlock the purpose and mission. You were designed for more than a safe, comfortable, self-focused life. Today, will you say yes to Jesus and step into the life?
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, You are worthy of all my worship and praise. You created me with purpose and called me by name. I confess I have hesitated to fully follow You with my life. Fear and comfort have often held me back from Your call. Forgive me for playing it safe when You designed me boldly. Today, I say yes to Jesus and His invitation to follow. Help me trust You more than I trust my own plans. Give me courage to step into the mission You prepared for me. Send me where You want me to go with Your message. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Personal Reflection
- What specific fears or concerns are keeping you from fully saying yes to Jesus' call on your life?
- How might God be preparing to send you to share His love with people in your current circle of influence?
Step of Faith
Today, I will tell one person that I'm following Jesus and ask them about their relationship with Him.
