Choose This Day

{{brizy_dc_image_alt entityId=

"But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

Joshua 24:15 (NIV)

Joshua refused to let Israel stay neutral. He was old, about to die, standing before God's people. They had conquered the Promised Land and settled in prosperity. Everything they hoped for had come true.

Yet Joshua didn't celebrate their victories. He didn't give them a motivational speech about keeping up the good work. Instead, he demanded a decision right then and there. Choose this day whom you will serve.

His urgency reveals a critical truth about spiritual life. Spiritual drift happens when we avoid decisive moments. We think we can stay neutral and keep our options open. We assume good intentions will carry us through. We postpone clear commitment for a more convenient time.

But neutrality is actually impossible in spiritual matters. You're either serving the Lord or serving something else. There's no middle ground between devotion and distraction. Indecision is still a decision. Delay still has consequences.

Joshua understood that this day demanded a response. Not next week when they felt more ready. Not after they thought about it longer. Not when circumstances seemed more favorable. This day. Now. Here. Making a tough choice is never easy. But it is a choice to be made.

Godseekers, 2026 won't wait for perfect conditions. The competing gods won't stop whispering because you're undecided. Your calendar won't organize itself around kingdom priorities automatically. Choose this day whom you will serve. If not, someone or something else will make that choice for you.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I've been avoiding clear commitment for too long. I've tried to stay neutral and keep my options comfortable. But today I choose to serve You alone. Give me courage to make this declaration and strength to live it out. Where I've been drifting, anchor me firmly in Your truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Personal Reflection

  • What areas of my life have I been avoiding a clear decision about serving God?
  • What would change in my daily schedule if I truly chose to serve the Lord today?

Step of Faith

Today, I will write down one specific area where I've been avoiding commitment and make a clear choice to serve God in that area.
