"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him."
Colossians 2:6 (NIV)
Your life is loud with voices. Every day, dozens of voices compete for your attention and loyalty. Social media tells you what success looks like while your boss defines your worth by productivity. Culture whispers what will make you happy, fear shouts warnings about the future, and comparison measures you against everyone else.
The voices around you promise many things. Some promise security if you just work harder or fulfillment if you buy the right things. These voices sound convincing because they appeal to your deepest fears and desires. But most of these voices lead you away from firm ground, shifting your foundation from Christ to circumstances that constantly change.
You face a critical choice every single day. Will you listen to the voice of fear or faith, comparison or contentment, culture or Christ? Paul wrote to believers who were hearing false teachers say they needed more than Jesus. But Paul said to walk in Christ the same way you received Him: by grace through faith.
Jesus said His sheep know His voice. In John 10:27, He promised that His followers would recognize and follow Him. His voice brings peace, not panic; freedom, not shame; grace, not performance. His voice builds on the firm foundation you already have in Him.
Here's the test for every voice you hear. Does this voice point you back to Christ alone and remind you that He is enough? Does it call you to walk in the same grace you received at salvation? Or does it suggest you need Jesus plus something else, making Christ smaller and your circumstances bigger?
Godseekers, you already know whose voice to follow. You received Christ Jesus as Lord, not as advisor or helper, but as Lord with authority over every competing voice. When fear speaks, His voice says "Do not be afraid," when comparison whispers, His voice declares you are already accepted, and when culture promises fulfillment, His voice reminds you that you are complete in Him. Stand firm on this foundation, listen to the Shepherd's voice, and walk in Him today the same way you received Him: by trusting His voice alone.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being the Good Shepherd who speaks with clarity and truth. Forgive me for the times I've listened to voices that pull me away from simple trust in Christ. I praise You for Your unchanging Word that anchors my soul. Help me recognize Your voice above all the noise competing for my attention. Teach me to walk in Christ today with the same trust I had when I first received Him. Guide my steps and quiet the voices that distract me from Your truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Personal Reflection
- Which voice has been loudest in your life lately: fear, comparison, culture, or Christ?
- What would change in your decisions this week if you filtered every choice through Christ's voice alone?
Step of Faith
Today, I will identify one area where I've been listening to competing voices and intentionally choose to listen to Christ's voice in Scripture instead.
