"Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?"

You once prayed hard for something you were sure was good for you. Maybe it was getting back together with someone who kept hurting you. Maybe it was the job that paid well but was slowly wearing you down to nothing. Maybe it was reopening a door that had already closed for a reason you could not see yet. Whatever it was, you asked. And you did not get it.
When the door stayed shut, it was easy to conclude God had stopped listening. You asked plainly. You believed. And still, nothing opened. That kind of silence can feel like proof you were forgotten.
A stone can look exactly like bread. A snake can look exactly like a fish. That is why Jesus asks whether any father would hand his hungry child a stone instead of bread. Or a snake instead of a fish. You cannot always tell the difference between what will nourish you and what will hurt you. Your Father always can.
What you wanted might have looked exactly like bread. The relationship you begged God to restore may have kept hurting you the same way it always had. The job you wanted to keep may have kept costing you your health and your family. You may never know for certain which one it was. What you can know is that the Father who said "No!" was still looking as closely as any parent ever has.
The Father's rejection is not a final verdict. It does not mean you asked wrong, or that you are less loved than someone whose prayer got answered exactly as asked. It means the Father who already knows the difference between bread and stone was simply doing what a good parent does.
Godseekers, you do not have to figure out why God said no. Bring it back to Him honestly, the same way a child brings a request to a parent they trust. He is not asking you to understand His reasons before you come to Him again. He is only asking you to keep believing He was paying attention the whole time.
Prayer
Father, I have wondered if Your no meant You stopped listening. I have measured Your love by whether I got exactly what I asked for. Forgive me for doubting Your care in the moments You may have actually protected me. Teach me to trust what I cannot yet see clearly. In Jesus' name, Amen.
