Bold Enough to Be Hunted
Saul could easily find people who belonged to The Way because they weren't hiding. These early followers of Jesus weren't keeping their faith private or apologizing for their beliefs. They were boldly proclaiming that Jesus was the risen Lord and the only way to salvation. Their confident declaration of truth was so clear and public that Saul could identify them, hunt them down, and arrest them. You can't persecute people for quiet, private faith that no one knows about.
The Way That Can’t Be Stopped
Saul thought he could hunt down and destroy The Way. He had official letters, religious backing, and legal authority to arrest anyone who followed Jesus. With the full power of the religious establishment behind him, he traveled from city to city, dragging believers from their homes and throwing them into prison. In his mind, this dangerous movement could be stopped if he just applied enough force and fear.
When The Way Challenges Your Way
Saul's hatred wasn't casual dislike, it was burning rage. The Greek word for "breathing" here means to be driven by something, to have it flow through you like oxygen itself. Every breath filled him with fury, every exhale released plans for destruction. This wasn't a man who occasionally got annoyed by Christians but someone whose very life had become defined by his hate for Jesus and His followers.

Jesus chose the perfect metaphor when He called fishermen to become fishers of people. This wasn't random wordplay or clever marketing. It was a brilliant connection between skills they already possessed and the mission He was giving them.

Jesus takes personal responsibility for your transformation, and that changes everything about how discipleship works. When Jesus called the fishermen, He didn't say, "You can make yourselves into fishers of men if you work hard enough."
