"and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem."
Acts 9:2
Saul thought he could hunt down and destroy The Way. He had official letters, religious backing, and legal authority to arrest anyone who followed Jesus. With the full power of the religious establishment behind him, he traveled from city to city, dragging believers from their homes and throwing them into prison. In his mind, this dangerous movement could be stopped if he just applied enough force and fear.
Jesus had already been spreading His Way far beyond Saul's reach. While Saul was busy arresting believers in Jerusalem, other followers were already establishing communities in Damascus, over 150 miles away. The persecution that scattered the believers didn't stop The Way; it actually spread it faster than ever before. Every city Saul planned to visit already had people who belonged to Jesus, proving that The Way moves faster than those who try to stop it.
Water always finds a way around obstacles. Engineers can build dams, create barriers, and redirect streams, but water continues to flow. It carves new channels through rock, seeps through cracks in concrete, and creates new paths when old ones are blocked. The harder someone tries to stop water completely, the more creative it becomes in finding alternative routes. The Living Way always finds a way where there seems to be no way.
Jesus as The Way is infinitely more unstoppable than any earthly movement. No government can legislate Him away, no persecution can eliminate Him, and no opposition can contain Him. When one door closes, He opens ten more. When one generation tries to silence Him, He raises up another that speaks even louder. The same Jesus who spread throughout the Roman Empire despite intense persecution continues His unstoppable work today through ordinary people who dare to follow Him.
Every attempt to stop Jesus only proves how unstoppable He really is. Crucifixion led to resurrection. Persecution led to expansion. Opposition leads to opportunity. Prison couldn't hold His followers, death couldn't defeat His message, and hell couldn't claim His victory.
Godseekers, you have the privilege of joining Jesus' unstoppable mission. You don't have to create the movement or sustain it through your own strength. You simply need to align yourself with what Jesus is already doing. Watch Him work through you in amazing ways. When you face opposition, remember that every attempt to stop God's people has led to greater expansion. When you encounter closed doors, trust that Jesus is opening others you haven't seen yet.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You that Your Way cannot be stopped by any human force or earthly power. When we face opposition or discouragement, remind us that we serve the unstoppable Jesus who turns every setback into a setup for greater victory. Help us to actively join Your mission with confidence, knowing that You are already working ahead of us. Give us boldness to follow You even when the path seems difficult, trusting that Your kingdom will advance no matter what stands in the way. In Jesus' name, Amen.
