Your Past Expired on the Cross

"Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.' And Jesus replied, 'I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.'"

Luke 23:42-43

Your worst day doesn't write your final story. This unnamed thief hung on a cross because of his crimes. Everyone knew what he had done wrong. His reputation was sealed in blood and violence. Yet in his darkest hour, he discovered that Jesus writes better endings than our mistakes ever could.

The thief died with the same criminal record he lived with. Jesus didn't erase his rap sheet or undo his crimes. The people he robbed stayed robbed. The lives he ruined stayed ruined. Yet Jesus called him a citizen of paradise. Grace doesn't require a clean slate. It creates one.

This transformation took less time than your morning coffee. No rehab program. No years of therapy. No gradual improvement. From criminal to paradise citizen in one conversation. If change can happen that fast for him, what's stopping it for you? Sometimes the biggest miracles happen in the smallest moments.

What if the thief had died one hour earlier? He would have missed meeting Jesus completely. What if he had stayed silent like his buddy? He would have died in his sins. Sometimes destiny hangs on split-second decisions when grace shows up. One choice changed everything for eternity.

Jesus didn't ask for this thief's resume or references. He didn't require community service hours or character witnesses. The thief's criminal record didn't disqualify him from paradise. Jesus saw a heart that was finally ready to accept grace and that was enough for eternal life.

Godseekers, stop waiting to become worthy enough for Jesus. This thief didn't get his life together first. He didn't promise to be better or make up for his crimes. He simply asked Jesus to remember him. That's it. Your brokenness isn't a barrier to grace - it's the perfect place for grace to show up.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for seeing past my failures and mistakes to the person You created me to be. Help me remember that my reputation doesn't define my destiny when I trust in Jesus. Give me hope when my past tries to drag me down and remind me that Your grace is bigger than my worst moments. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Personal Reflection

• What part of your past reputation makes you feel unworthy of God's love?

• How has Jesus already begun rewriting your story from your old life to your new life in Him?

Step of Faith

Today, I will stop letting my past define my future and trust that Jesus has given me a new identity as His beloved child.
