Following Means Going
{{brizy_dc_image_alt entityId=

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'"

Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)

Following always requires movement, never staying still or comfortable. You can't follow someone and remain where you are safely. When Jesus called His first disciples, He didn't say, "Sit here." He said, "Come, follow me," and they immediately left their nets. Following means going wherever Jesus leads you without hesitation or excuse. When Isaiah heard God's voice, he responded with immediate action.

God is asking the same question today: who will go? He's looking for people willing to be sent into their neighborhoods. He's searching for followers ready to step into their workplaces. He's calling disciples prepared to engage their families with truth. You were designed for more than just receiving God's blessings alone. You were designed to be sent as His messenger of hope. Following means going, not just believing or agreeing from afar.

Jesus makes it clear what following Him actually requires daily. Luke 9:23 tells us to deny ourselves and follow Him. The word "follow" in Greek is akoloutheo, meaning to accompany or go. It implies movement, not sitting still in one safe place. You can't follow someone who's moving while you stay put. Following Jesus means you go where He goes without question. It means you trust His direction more than your comfort.

True disciples recognize their Shepherd's voice and follow Him willingly. John 10:27 reminds us that Jesus' sheep listen to Him. They don't just hear His voice and stay where they are. They follow Him wherever He leads them each day faithfully. This is the mark of authentic discipleship in your life. You listen for His voice in prayer and Scripture daily. Then you obey and go where He sends you immediately.

Where is Jesus calling you to go right now today? Is it to a difficult conversation you keep putting off? Is it to serve in a ministry that feels uncomfortable? Is it to reach out to someone who hurt you? Is it to share the gospel with your coworker or neighbor? God designed you for more than comfort and convenience in life. He designed you to be sent on mission with Him. Following always means going where He leads you to go.

Godseekers, God is asking today, "Whom shall I send?" right now. Will you respond like Isaiah and say, "Here am I"? You were designed for more than following Jesus from a distance. You were created to go where He sends you boldly. Following and being sent are not separate things at all ever. They are one unified calling on your life every day. Take up your cross, listen for His voice, and go.

Prayer

Dear Lord, You are the Good Shepherd who leads me perfectly. I praise You for calling me to follow and sending me. Forgive me for the times I've stayed comfortable and safe. I confess I've resisted Your voice when it called me. Help me recognize Your voice clearly above all other voices. Give me courage to say, "Here am I, send me." Strengthen me to go where You lead without hesitation or fear. Use me as Your messenger in the places You send. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Personal Reflection

  1. Where is Jesus specifically calling you to go or act that you've been hesitating to obey?
  2. What would it look like for you to respond, "Here am I, send me" in your current circumstances?

Step of Faith

Today, I will ask Jesus in prayer where He's sending me and take one specific action in obedience.
