Guilt convinces a lot of people that the back row is the only safe seat in church. Maybe it followed a hard week of arguments at home. Maybe it was a private failure no one else knows about. Either way, getting closer to God can feel like something to earn back first. The distance feels safest. So people stay exactly where guilt tells them to.
That instinct assumes God only welcomes people once they clean themselves up first. It sounds humble. It is actually backward. Scripture never asks you to arrive already presentable before you draw near.
Hebrews already settled this before it ever mentions gathering. A few verses earlier, the writer says believers now have confidence to enter God's presence through the blood of Jesus. That confidence did not wait for anyone to feel ready. It was established at the cross.
Look closely at what drawing near actually requires. A sincere heart. Full assurance that faith brings. Hearts already sprinkled clean. Bodies already washed. Every one of those is described as already finished, not as something left for you to complete first.
Knowing that changes what today can look like. You do not need to sort yourself out before you pray. You do not need to feel finished with your guilt before you come near. The washing already happened. Coming near is simply believing it.
Godseekers, you were never asked to earn the distance you have been keeping. Christ already opened the way and already made you clean enough to walk through it. Draw near today with the heart you actually have, not the one you think you should bring first.
Prayer
Lord, I have been treating distance from You as something safer than honesty. I have believed I need to be cleaner before I come near. Thank You for washing me through Christ and giving me confidence to approach You as I am. Forgive me for standing back when the way was already opened. Draw me close today, not because I have earned it, but because You already made the way. In Jesus' name, Amen.
