"We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one."
1 John 5:19 (NIV)
You read that verse and it sounds like bad news. The whole world under the evil one's control feels heavy and hopeless to hear. You brace yourself, expecting John to tell you to be afraid. But that is not actually the point he is making at all.
John names the world's condition to show you something about your own. You are not trapped inside that same darkness anymore, and that is the point. You are a child of God, awake in a world still asleep around you. That difference changes how you are meant to walk through your day.
Paul used the same picture writing to the church at Ephesus. In Ephesians 5:14, he said wake up, sleeper, and Christ will shine on you. Being awake was never about staying anxious or watching every shadow. It was about letting Christ's light fall clearly on your face.
Something in us still flinches at how much the world seems to be losing. We watch the news and wonder if evil is actually winning after all. John already answered that question before we ever asked it out loud. The world's condition was never meant to define who we actually are.
There is probably a piece of news or noise weighing on you right now. It is easy to let that noise define what feels true and secure. Your identity as a child of God was never tied to that noise. That noise has probably shaped more of your peace than you realized.
Godseekers, you are not what the world around you has become. You are a child of God, standing apart from its condition entirely. So you may know, that identity does not shift with the headlines. Walk into today as someone who already belongs to a different Kingdom.
Prayer
Living God, You are the One who is never shaken by the world's condition. You have made us children of God even while the world sits under darkness. You are able to keep our identity steady no matter what the headlines say. You are able to wake us up wherever we have grown dull to You. We declare that we already belong to You, no matter what surrounds us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
