Your Name Was on It

"Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb."

Revelation 19:9a (ESV)

Some invitations are earned and some are simply given. The ones you earn come with a record attached. The ones you are given come because someone wanted you there. The angel in Revelation 19 declares a blessing over people who received, not produced.

The word the angel uses is invited, not qualified. Heaven does not say blessed are the prepared or the deserving. It says blessed are those who received the call. Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:4 that the call went out before the world began.

The invitation did not arrive because we were ready for it. It arrived through the blood of the Lamb, paid before we knew we needed it. Christ came as the Bridegroom and sealed the covenant with His own life. He extended the offer to people who had nothing to bring to the table.

We know what it feels like to return to God carrying the same failures again. We wonder if He is tired of seeing us come back with the same weight. But repentance is not what earns the seat back. Repentance is what turns us toward the One who never gave the seat away.

The right response to this invitation is not resolution but return. Come back to the Bridegroom who chose you before you could choose well. Let His blood be the ground you stand on and not your most recent performance. The invitation was sealed in that blood and it has not weakened since.

Godseekers, the blessing in Revelation 19 is not waiting for you to get it together. It is already declared over you through the covenant Christ sealed. Repentance is the door and His grace is what you find on the other side. Walk through it and let that be enough for today.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the God who chose us before we had anything to offer and loved us before we knew how to receive it. You paid the bride-price in full so that the invitation would never depend on what we brought to it. We come to You today not with a clean record but with empty hands. We turn from every attempt to earn what You have already given and we receive Your grace as the only ground we stand on. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Personal Reflection

  1. When you come back to God after a season of failure, what are you trusting in: your renewed effort or the blood of Christ that sealed the invitation in the first place? What is the difference between those two postures?
  2. Is there someone in your family or church who has stayed away from God because they believe their record has disqualified them? How might the truth of this invitation change what you say to them this week?

Step of Faith

Today, speak this aloud over yourself before the day goes any further: "I was chosen before the foundation of the world and the blood of Christ has not stopped being enough." Say it even if you do not feel it yet. Say it especially then.
