"The Spirit and the Bride say, 'Come.' And let the one who hears say, 'Come.' And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price."
Revelation 22:17 (ESV)
Most people assume the invitation is still on its way. They are waiting until they feel ready enough to step forward. Revelation 22:17 does not say wait until that feeling arrives. It says come, and the only qualification it names is thirst.
The Bridegroom did not wait for us to prepare before He moved. He came, paid the price, and extended the offer before we were ready. The bride's readiness was granted to her, not produced by her. All of it points toward this single word: come.
The reversal in Revelation 22:17 is quiet but it changes the entire frame. We assume we must reach a certain condition before we can approach the table. The text flips that assumption and names thirst as the only qualification. You do not come after you have fixed yourself.
Readiness can quietly become the point rather than the One you are prepared for. The table is not a reward for those who have finished becoming ready. It is not a destination you arrive at after sufficient formation. It is where the not-yet-ready are made ready by the one who invited them.
The Spirit and the Bride are still saying come and the word has not expired. It crossed from Patmos to this room and it is addressed to you today. More awareness of your need than your readiness is not a reason to wait. That awareness is exactly the thirst this invitation was written for.
Godseekers, every promise in Scripture arrives at this same threshold. Chosen, made ready, called to watch, and now invited to come. The water of life is without price and cannot be refused on grounds of cost. Come thirsty and let the Bridegroom do the rest.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are the God who set a table before we knew we were hungry and sent an invitation before we knew we were lost. Thank You for a Bridegroom who does not wait for readiness before He moves. We confess that we have treated Your table as a reward rather than a gift. Meet us today in the specific place where we have been waiting to feel ready before we come to You. We come now, thirsty and empty-handed, and that is enough. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Personal Reflection
- When you picture yourself approaching the table the Bridegroom has set, what do you bring with you? Is it your readiness or your need? What does your honest answer reveal?
- Who in your family, church, or generation is still standing outside the table waiting until they feel ready? What would it mean for you to bring the word "come" to them directly this week?
Step of Faith
Today, tell someone one specific thing God has done for you through this devotional. Not a summary of what you learned. One thing that changed. Name it out loud to another person before the day is over.
