How Much God Has Done

Sermon Series: 2026, Devotionals, Tell

"'Return home and tell how much God has done for you.'"

Luke 8:39 (NIV)

Somebody reading this has a story they keep small. You have one true thing God has done in your life. You mention it briefly, if at all, and quickly change the subject. Today is for you specifically, not for the room in general.

You have convinced yourself your story is too small to matter. The man in Luke 8 had one sentence, not a sermon, to offer. Jesus did not ask him to make it sound bigger than it was. He simply said, tell how much God has done for you.

Maybe your story is a marriage God has been slowly rebuilding. Maybe it is smaller, a peace that makes no logical sense this year. Whatever it is, it did not happen by accident or coincidence. That single true thing is exactly what someone near you needs to hear.

This is the tension we live in, wanting to speak yet staying quiet. We were promised power to be His witnesses long before we felt ready (Acts 1:8). We convince ourselves our story is too ordinary to count as evidence. God does not need your story to be dramatic, only true.

Think of the one true thing God has done for you this year. Do not wait until it sounds impressive enough to share with someone. Say it exactly the way it happened, without polish or performance. That plain telling might be exactly what someone else needs today.

Godseekers, your one true story is enough evidence for someone today. You do not need better words or a more dramatic testimony to offer. Say plainly what He did, and let that plain truth be enough. Someone near you has been waiting to hear exactly that.

Prayer

Lord of heaven and earth, before we bring our own requests we bring the people around us. Someone we love has a quiet story they have never told anyone. Someone in this church is waiting for one honest conversation this week. Open the door for them, and give them the courage to speak plainly. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Personal Reflection

  1. What is one true thing God has done for you that you have kept too small?
  2. Who in your family or church might need to hear that story from you this week?

Step of Faith

Today, tell one person one specific thing God has done for you this week. Do not wait for a perfect moment or a polished way to say it. Say it plainly, the same way you would tell any true story. Let your one sentence be enough evidence for them today.
