"They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee."
Luke 8:26 (NIV)
Some journeys only make sense for one person. Nobody sails toward a storm just to reach one man. Yet that is exactly what Jesus did that night. He crossed an entire lake before sunrise for someone the town had given up on.
One detail in this crossing is easy to miss. Luke does not say Jesus sent someone else to check on this man first. He got in the boat Himself and rode out the storm to get there. The trip mattered enough that Jesus made it personally.
This is what love looks like before anyone asks for it. Paul wrote that God showed His own love for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). The man in the tombs never sent word asking Jesus to come. Christ moved first, and that movement is why the man later had anything to tell.
None of us waited until we were ready before God came looking. We like to imagine we invited Him first with some act of faith. Every one of us has stood exactly where this man stood. Christ crossed toward us long before we ever called out to Him.
Stop waiting to feel worthy of being pursued by God. He already crossed the distance long before you cleaned anything up. Consider one place in your life where you assumed He was waiting on you. The truth is simpler, He was already moving toward you.
Godseekers, keep looking at the lake He was willing to cross for you. That crossing was never about convenience or an easy audience. He came specifically, deliberately, and long before you had anything figured out. Carry that detail with you and let it shape how you tell your own story.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are good, and You have never needed convincing to come toward us. Thank You for crossing every distance before we even knew to ask. Forgive us for assuming we have to earn Your attention first. Meet us today in whatever place still feels far from You. We do not need to perform for You, we simply need to receive You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Personal Reflection
- Where have you assumed you needed to earn God's attention before He would come near?
- Who in your circle needs to hear that God pursues people before they are ready?
Step of Faith
Today, message one person and tell them plainly that God pursued you before you were ready. Do not wait for the perfect wording or the right moment to say it. Keep it simple and let the truth carry the weight of the message. This is one small way to practice telling what God has done.
