"The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned."
Luke 8:32-33 (NIV)
Some things in your life feel too big to control. You have tried structure, willpower, and quiet arrangements to manage it. Maybe it is a habit, a memory, or a family pattern. Whatever it is, you have learned to live around it instead of through it.
A herd of pigs plunging into water proves something about God. Luke tells us Jesus commands demons and they must obey completely. He does not argue with darkness or negotiate its terms of surrender. What God permits and what God commands still bends to His single word.
No power in your life is bigger than the one who sent this man home. In Exodus 15, the people sang, "Who is like you, LORD, among the gods?" This scene answers that question in real time and space. The God who let legion enter pigs gave one man a sentence to tell.
We all carry something we have learned to manage instead of surrender. Many of us have built quiet systems around what we cannot control. We call it coping, but really it is only avoidance with better manners. The same authority that emptied a legion still stands over what we carry today.
What have you been managing instead of surrendering to God? Name it honestly, even if only in your own mind right now. Bring it to the same God who commands chaos with one word. Stop negotiating with it and let Him simply take it.
Godseekers, the same voice that emptied a legion is not finished speaking today. He is not intimidated by whatever you have been carrying alone. What He commands still bends, no matter how impossible it looks from where you stand. You do not have to manage it any longer, only bring it to Him.
Prayer
Lord of all creation, You are the God before whom chaos itself must kneel. Nothing hidden or unmanageable is outside Your command. You emptied a legion with a single word and let no power argue back. We believe You can do the same with what we have carried too long. We are not asking You to negotiate, we are declaring You already reign. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Personal Reflection
- What is one thing you have been trying to manage instead of surrendering to God this week?
- Where in your family or church could someone use a reminder that God still commands what feels unmanageable?
Step of Faith
Today, confess to God the one thing you have been managing instead of surrendering. Say it plainly, without softening it or explaining it away. Ask Him to take authority over it the way He did in Luke 8. Then tell one person you trust that you finally brought it to Him.
