"But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ."
2 Corinthians 11:3 (NIV)
Nothing about that moment in the garden looked dangerous. Eve was not trying to destroy her whole world. She was looking at a tree the way you glance at anything else. That quiet moment of looking is where Genesis 3:6 begins.
The Bible says the fruit looked good, pleasing, and wise to have. Nothing about it looked like a trap or a trick. It looked like something good, something worth having for herself. The serpent did not need to make evil look like evil.
Paul saw this same pattern centuries later in Corinth. He had already told this church they were betrothed to Christ. Then he warned their minds could be led astray from that devotion. The same quiet drift could threaten a bride waiting for her wedding day.
Does any part of that feel familiar to you? Some of us have drifted a little without ever deciding to. We did not wake up one day and walk away from Christ on purpose. We slowly became more interested in everything else around us.
Picture your own attention like that moment in the garden. What has been quietly looking good to you lately? It does not have to be something obviously wrong. Notice what has been getting more of your attention than Christ has.
Godseekers, the garden you read about today is still right here. You are standing in it every time your attention starts to drift. The Bridegroom is not asking you to be perfect, only to stay close. Turn your eyes back to Him before the looking becomes something more.
Prayer
Father of mercies, some of us have drifted without even noticing it happened. Our attention has been pulled toward things that looked harmless at first. But You have not stopped calling us back to Yourself. Forgive us for the small ways we have wandered this week. Bring our eyes back to You, and keep us close to You while we wait. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Personal Reflection
- What has quietly been getting more of your attention than Christ lately?
- Where do you see this same quiet drift happening in our church or community?
Step of Faith
Today, identify one thing that has quietly been pulling your attention away from Christ. Put it away or step back from it for the rest of the day, and use that time to turn back to Him.
