He’s Patient With What You’re Impatient About

"to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,"

Ephesians 5:26 (NIV)

You hoped this struggle would be over by now. Maybe it is a temper, a habit, or something you cannot name. You have prayed about this more times than you can count. And nothing about it seems to have changed at all.

Look closely at one word in today's verse: washing. The Greek word is loutron, and it means a bath or a wash. It does not describe one dramatic scrub that fixes everything at once. It describes the kind of washing you do again and again.

Peter writes about this same patience in 2 Peter 3:9. He says the Lord is not slow, even when it feels that way to us. He is patient with us, giving us time to keep growing. The same patient God is the one doing the washing in you.

We live in a culture that rewards instant results. We want fast food, fast replies, and fast spiritual growth. So when growth in us takes years instead of days, we feel behind. But the Lord measures progress differently than we do.

What is the one area where you feel most stuck right now? Name it honestly, even if it feels small or embarrassing. God is not frustrated with you for still being in process. He is patiently washing that very area, one day at a time.

Godseekers, the same patience that wrote 2 Peter 3:9 is washing you today. You do not need to rush what He is taking His time to finish. The Bridegroom is not watching the clock the way you are. Let Him keep washing, even the part you wish was already clean.

Prayer

Faithful God, You are patient with us in ways we do not deserve. Thank You for not giving up on the parts of us that are slow to change. We confess that we get impatient with ourselves and with this season of waiting. Some of us are tired of asking for the same change again and again. We trust that Your washing is still working, even when we cannot see it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Personal Reflection

  1. What is one area of your life where you have been impatient with God's timing?
  2. How can our church community practice patience with each other as we grow together?

Step of Faith

Today, think of a prayer you stopped praying because nothing seemed to change. Pray it again, and thank God for the patient work He is still doing.
