"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
1 John 1:9 (NIV)
Someone reading this has a secret they carry alone. You have rehearsed how you would explain it if asked. You have decided it is safer left unspoken, even to God. John has a different word for you this morning.
The word confess in 1 John 1:9 carries real weight. In the original language, homologeo simply means to agree. It is not begging God to reconsider or change His mind. It is simply saying the same true thing He already knows.
Some of us have carried unspoken weight for a long time. In Psalm 32:5, David describes the moment he finally spoke. He said, I will confess, and the guilt lifted at once. The weight you are carrying was never meant to stay hidden.
We often hide easiest from the One who already loves us. Closeness to God does not remove the urge to hide. But He never intended hiding to be part of that closeness. John wrote his letter so we could know safety instead of shame.
What is one thing you have never said to God plainly? Confession does not require perfect words or a rehearsed speech. Say it exactly as it is, without softening or excusing it. Let this be the moment you stop managing it alone.
Godseekers, nothing you carry is hidden from His eyes. He already knows the very thing you are guarding so carefully. Bring it into His light, and simply agree with Him. Let Him meet the truth you speak with healing, not shame.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are good, and Your goodness has never depended on our performance. Thank You for a love that welcomes confession instead of punishing it. Forgive us for the times we chose hiding over honesty. Meet us today in the specific thing we have kept from You. We do not need to manage it anymore. We only need to bring it to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
