"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins."
1 John 4:10 (NIV)
You keep trying to love people better than you can. You wake up determined to be more patient and more generous today. By evening the determination is gone and the guilt has replaced it. You wonder if real love is something you are simply failing to produce.
Picture a Father who moved before we ever loved Him back. Before we prayed a single honest prayer He was already sending His Son. The Son entered a world that did not love Him back at all. He was not sent to reward affection but to create it instead.
John names this sending as the actual proof of God's love. This is love, that He loved us before we loved Him at all. Paul writes it plainly in Romans 5:8: Christ died for us while we were sinners. Nothing about our effort qualified us to receive that kind of love.
Some of us have been quietly exhausted trying to love on our own strength. We keep performing patience instead of simply receiving God's love that produces it. God never asked us to generate love, only to receive what He already gave. We cannot give what we do not have, so we receive Him daily.
Receive God's love today, more than ever before. You cannot generate what only God can first give you to carry. Sit with the fact that He moved before you ever tried to. You do not have to carry that exhaustion quietly anymore.
Godseekers, God loved you before you ever tried to earn it. The Father moved first and you have been living inside that love since. Stop performing a love God has already given you in full. Walk into today knowing you are already loved, not still proving it.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You loved us before we ever loved You back. Thank You for moving first when we had nothing to offer You. Forgive us for treating Your love like something we have to earn. We are tired from performing Your love that was already given freely. Meet us today in the exhaustion and remind us we are already loved. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Personal Reflection
- Where have you been performing God's love instead of receiving it lately?
- Who in your family or church might be quietly exhausted the same way?
Step of Faith
Today, confess to God the specific way you have been trying to earn His love. Name the exact effort you have been leaning on instead of resting in Him. Ask Him to remind you that He moved first, long before you tried anything. Let that confession replace the exhaustion with the truth of His love.
