"Jesus looked at him and said, 'You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas' (which, when translated, is Peter)."

Simon walked in expecting to be introduced as Andrew's brother. Instead Jesus looks straight at him and speaks a name he has never worn. Simon is caught off guard by a title he did not choose for himself. Something about being truly seen unsettles him before it ever comforts him.
Jesus does not ask Simon to prove himself first. He simply looks at him and names what he will become, not just who he is. Cephas means rock, a strange word for a man known for impulsive decisions. Jesus is not describing Simon's past, He is speaking his future into the room.
Some of us carry old names we never asked for. Failure, doubt, or shame can attach themselves to a person like a permanent label. Simon likely expected Jesus to know his reputation and treat him accordingly. Instead Jesus speaks past the reputation and into who Simon could actually become.
Paul wrote about this same kind of renaming in 2 Corinthians 5. Anyone in Christ becomes a new creation, with the old life truly gone. This is the same pattern TELL has followed from week one until now. A changed name always leads to a changed mouth that tells others what happened.
What old name have you been calling yourself? Jesus is not interested in rehearsing your worst moment on repeat. Let Him speak over you the way He spoke over Simon. Say His name for you out loud, even if it feels unfamiliar.
Godseekers, Jesus is not finished naming what you will become. You are standing in the same room Simon stood in that day. He already sees past what you have done into who you are becoming. Walk out today wearing the name He has spoken over you.
Prayer
Father of mercies, some of us are still calling ourselves by names You have already replaced. We have let failure and shame speak louder than what You have said about us. We are tired of carrying labels that were never meant to stay. We choose today to believe what You call us instead. Speak Your name over us again and help us walk in it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today, tell one person one specific thing God has done in your life this week. Do not generalize it or make it sound impressive. Say it plainly, the way Andrew and Philip did. Let your changed name lead naturally into your changed story.
